Lee Penn Sky: Music

Nebraska

(Lee Penn Sky)
I went down to Nebraska
don’t know why I came this way
I went down to Nebraska
Don’t know how long I’ll stay

I arrived on a March day
The ground was frozen and the furrows laid bare
Someone spoke to me
Said can’t give you work but it’s good to have you here

It’s been a long time
Since I’ve heard someone tell me my body’s showing wear
Those who’ve sown a seed can tell me
Burdens come and go, and the fire rakes the plains

Just as the scorched earth shows us
The fire in my heart can be rebuilt again
Springtime of words comes to me
Water feeds the fields and Nebraska’s green again
